There are two distinct
boattails on the aft end of the sustainer. The first is a fairly gentle angle
starting at the thickest part of the fin airfoil and going back about 11
inches.
For the aft-most part of the boattail it was
necessary to lay-up supports. In the picture to the left you can see the wedge
shaped supports being epoxied into place.
Here are
the supports in place, along with the pieces for the second part of the transition
in place. This is just a test fit to ensure everything fits. Further up in the
picture up can see the first transition is already in place.
