Core Layer
The first or innermost layer consists of 1/4" Birch plywood.
Backing Layer
Laying on top of the 1/4" Birch core, is an additional layer
of 1/4" Birch on both sides called the backing layer. This layer will
increase the thickness of the center section and the fin tab (not show) to
3/4"
Foam Leading Edges
The leading a trailing edges will be covered in foam and
shaped to form a transition from the innermost core to the backing layer.
Foam Center Section
An additional layer of foam will be placed on top of the
backing layer. This foam layer will give the fins it's final shape.
After the composite structure of the fins is built up (plywood, plywood,
foam) the entire structure will be covered in three layers of carbon fiber. Each
layer of carbon fiber will be oriented at 45 degrees from each other.
